Local Biography and Background
Richard is a Seattle native. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Washington, (B.A. ’80, magna cum laude, with Honors in History), Phi Beta Kappa. Richard attended the University of Washington School of Law (J.D. ’86) and was a member of the Moot Court Honor Board and National Appellate Advocacy Team. Richard and his firm have a brick and mortar law building 2 minutes from I-5 in North Seattle.

A Good Lawyer Knows the Law; a Great Lawyer Knows the Judge
Richard knows the people, the institutions, and the way things get done through the local courts. He has been repeatedly recognized for his constructive work with the King County Superior Court. He served as a Program Committee Chairperson for the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA). Richard has also been selected several times for the King County Bar Association’s Committee appointed by the Superior Court Judges to make recommendations as to Court Commissioner appointments; Court Commissioner’s are the judicial officials who make in initial crucial decisions in divorce cases. Richard has been an instructor on divorce law topics for the Washington State Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education program for lawyers.
Richard has a long-standing appointment as a King County Superior Court Volunteer Master Attorney. In this role, he has successfully conducted numerous settlement conferences to help people and their attorneys settle their cases equitably outside of court.
